Storms of varying kinds...

moonscape
photography by sweetmango

White Wind

on the wild nights
the restless calling
of the barren plains
and snow capped mountains
when the billowing, bulging
grey columns form in the skies
to the west
and water turns to ice
and hurls itself on a suicide mission
to the earths surface
and your breath rattles in your ribcage
searing your lungs with icy fire
when the moon is shrouded
and cowers behind the darkened mane
of the storm clouds brewing
then I shall come
across and over, in between and around
whistling and roaring
icy cold blasts cutting a swath
of destruction and creation
i am the white wind
of winter deep
that howls at the cavern door
scattering the rags that still dress the trees

Praying, never ceasing for all in New Zealand, and ever so grateful for your brother's safety and his service to your country. I know the pride one feels...and the worry. Beeeeeeutiful poem! DeLovely. Wonderful to read you again. Sending you all my love on the wings of a desert sparrow, Deb ♥♥♥

This post really suprised me. Many fellow South Africans have moved to Australia and New Zealand as expats to escape the violence and crime in our own country and now I find out that the same things happen there. I guess you find violence and crime where ever people live and that is so sad.

As soon as I heard this on the news I immediately thought of you and another blog friend who is from New Zealand and wondered if all you 2 know are OK. sounds like they are and hank goodness for that!!!

Your brother is incredibly brave. It's scary to think a stab proof vest does not do the job very well but I'm glad he's OK. I know the police there generally do not carry guns but being in the US where anyone can pretty much get one, I am all the more impressed by his bravery. Those were some very scary situations!!!

Glad his accomplishments have been recognized. Too bad he wasn't local since I could have asked him a few things about police stuff since I always end up playing on on TV for some odd reason. Could help me make the characters more authentic.

Anyway, hope everyone in New Zealand is OK and that life gets back to normal soon.

Beautiful poem!

My prayers are with the people affected by the earthquake. How frightening it must have been.

Your bro is so brave to still turn up for work after experiencing such violence first-hand. Thank goodness for stab-proof vests!

Goodness! FIrst of all, thank goodness your brother is OK, and what a magnet he is for life experiences! I guess from my time in NZ I saw and felt nothing of the violence described, so I am sorry to hear of such extreme things over there. I didn't know your bro and both parents were in law enforcement. New things to learn about you all the time :-)

A 7.2 is HUGE. I was in LA during the one that was their "big" one and it was somewhere in the 5's still...

As an aside, I like looking at your brothers face to see if I can see any resemblance to you...
