I am Hala...

A while ago I spent three days glued to my easel, I sat down with a blank canvas and a blank mind and three days later the canvas was transformed into this....

I am not the body,

because the body is impermanent and subject to growth and decay;

I am not the mind and its thoughts and feelings and dreams,

because they too change and pass away;

I am not the consciousness in deep sleep,

because although there the perception is freed
from duality and division,

it comes to an end on waking;

what I am is the witness
of all that persists through all these states.

The writing on the side says:

If you reach deep inside your soul
there is a place where peace resides.
It is an endless well of quiet knowledge
from which you can draw upon whenever the need arises.
Taking hold of your fears,
your indecision, your negative beliefs,
travel deep into the centre of your soul.
Hold your hands above your head in supplication
and release all of your worries
watch as they transform into beautiful butterflies
floating and drifting above your head
dancing with joy as they listen to the answers of your soul.
Slowly, the butterflies descend
and alight upon your shoulders and your head,
quietly the knowledge they have gained is whispered between the beating of  their wings
until finally you have complete and unquestionable understanding of who you are
your questions are answered
and the mystery of you becomes less clouded.
Every question you ever had
every moment of confusion
each and every time you halted in your journey
due to fear or indecision,
the answers you were seeking lay within you
All answers are within you
if you are quiet and still and if you trust
you will hear the knowledge that you seek.
The books we read,
the scholars we listen to,
the seminars we attend
they do not provide the answers,
they merely give us clues
prompts to help remind us of who we really are.
Deep inside of you there exists a library
 that will provide the answer
for everything you ever wanted to know about you.
Draw from that resource,
retreat to that knowledge
Take some time out of every single day to sit very quietly,
immersed  and deeply engaged  in the study of You.
Remember to take with you the fear and indecision's of the day,
release them and let them return willingly to you as butterflies
that reveal the truth that you seek.
Everything you need  exists within.
Drink from the well of your soul
and your fear will be extinguished.

What a beautiful painting, so perfectly matched to your words.

I have been immersed here for a while now taking in the different posts. It was your comment about your son on KJ's blog that intrigued me. He really does emit a certain light ;)

I'm glad I stopped by, truly.

There is so much to say, and nothing to say - all at the same time. Your posts do this time me, time and time again. My mind rushes with words, and then stops, slows to a creeping halt. I read a little more..I look a little more..and whoosh! There it goes again..busy, busy! And, then back again to "aaaah.. peace!"

Acrylic is a difficult medium to practice, you are very adept at it. It must be easy to stay with this artform when you have such a love for it.

The words from the Upanishads make this painting that much more beautiful, when you mix Paint, and the Written word which both in this presentation carry so much in their meaning.

Butterflies as thoughts floating over your head and then come resting upon your arms and shoulders reminds me of the scene in Avatar when the floating lights land on him saving his life.

We should all be so lucky to have the answers to our problems alight upon us, if we just sat silent, meditated. For some it is fortunate we can get our answers this way, For other non believers, because some would rather be Atheists, seem to struggle, when struggle is not necessary,. This form of mediation and belief system which has been with us for at the time of these writings possibly 700 years before the common era(CE). I will leave you with this phrase which I find helpful... "Tat Tvam Asi" (That Thou Art).

Some interpret Only you know yourself. When one knows ones own soul and that soul is like another, Then one must know the other and thus they form ... kindred spirits.

You do beautiful work.
